BACKGROUND:
Peach has been kidnapped by a mysterious organization, the X-Nauts. Grodus is the leader of the X-Nauts and they search for the Crystal Stars.
Why would they want the Crystal Stars? There is an old legend that whoever shows the Crystal Stars to the Thousand Year Door, will open it and gain an enormous treasure.
For this reason, the X-Nauts have taken measures to see that the magical map Peach gave Mario, which shows the location of the Crystal Stars, becomes theirs.
Grodus even hired the Shadow Sirens to take that map and getting his X-Naut scientists to create minions to hunt down Mario.
Grodus cares little for his underlings, especially Lord Crump and his computer, TEC and considers them expendible. Even when Mario foils his plans, he always has a backup.
This is one dangerous foe. But how does Peach fit into all of this? And what really lies behind the Thousand Year Door?
